Whitewater Center – Charlotte, NC
Another day, another school closure due to snow…in North Carolina?! Snow doesn’t faze me, being a transplant from the Northeast. And much as I love a relaxing, cozy day at home, sometimes it’s beyond necessary to spend some time outdoors…or specifically, out-of-your-doors.
Here are some fun things to do on those unexpected days off…or weekends…or any time that you need to get the kids out of the house and doing something physically or cognitively active:
- Sky Zone Trampoline Park (10200 Centrum Parkway, Pineville, NC 28134; 7325 Smith Corners Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28269) This is one of my FAVORITE places to bring the kids to burn some energy. My kids never say no to going to any trampoline park. Pro tip: arrive when the park first opens…it’s less busy and you’ll have full reign of the facility. By lunchtime, your kids will have had a full workout and will be ready to relax. It’s a win-win for everyone!
- Sports Connection (11611 Ardrey Kell Road, Charlotte, NC 28277) The Ballantyne location has a large variety of activities, including a ropes course, mini-bowling, laser tag, bumper cars, and an arcade. There’s also locations in Northlake and on Granite Street; these two locations solely provide court rentals for pickleball, volleyball, and other indoor sports.
- Charlotte Mecklenberg Library (multiple locations, including 5871 Rea Road, Charlotte, NC 28277) My kids were thrilled when they received their library and love borrowing books whenever they can. The Rea Road location has a great children’s section, and all of the libraries provide weekly storytimes and other events catering to children’s (and adults’) abilities and interests.
- Whitewater Center (5000 Whitewater Center Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28214) There’s so much to do at the Whitewater Center, during any month of the year. Whitewater rafting, rock climbing, paddle boarding, ice skating, bike riding, even just taking a simple walk on the trails…the possibilities are endless. It’s a beautiful place to connect with nature and with your family!
- Children’s Theatre of Charlotte (300 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28202) So many fun shows for kids and their families to enjoy! The theatre reimagines classic stories from the Three Little Pigs to The Wizard of Oz, and creates a program that is comprehensive and age-appropriate for young children. Beyond the performances, there are classes, camps, and sensory-friendly events for all abilities and interests.
