Favorite End-of-the-Year Books for Kids | Charlotte Moms Network

The end of the school year is quickly approaching (and for our friends in South Carolina, it has already arrived!).  This time of year brings on excitement (for class parties, for summer vacation) and at the same time, fear and anxiety (about what’s to come, about leaving a familiar classroom or school).

Preschool-aged children often can’t comprehend going from one school year to another; there’s a three-month gap in between, and that’s too far into the future for kids!  Rather than speaking about the following school year for young children, it’s more tangible to focus on what’s to come in the immediate future:  summer activities, vacation, camp, and the like. While elementary school-aged children usually understand about going on to a new classroom or school, the same worries remain.  Transitioning is hard, for everyone, at all ages!

Overall, the goal is to make children feel confident in themselves and excited for the new activities to come.  I’ve put together a list of my favorite end-of-year books not only to use in the classroom, but for families to read at home.  It’s a great way to make a text-to-self connection and open up conversations with your kids about their feelings and concerns.
