Get ready for Mardi Gras this year by ordering a traditional king cake! Here in the Queen City, there’s lots of bakeries that make this traditional treat, which features a tiny plastic baby in the center. It is believed that the person who finds the baby will have luck and prosperity in the coming year…and has the honor of hosting next year’s king cake party!
Be sure to order your cake early…these bakeries sell out quickly!
- Carolina Sweets Company – Waxhaw (3709 Methodist Church Lane, Waxhaw, NC 28173)
- Renata’s Kitchen (Charlotte; order directly online from their Instagram menu and pick up locally: King Cake Cream Cheese or King Cake Praline.)
- Publix – Many Publix stores offer the cake in-store (that’s how I picked up mine last year!). You can also order ahead if you’d like.
- The Bakery Shoppe (9606 Sherill Estates Road, Huntersville, NC) – Order online, in person, or over the phone. Cakes are available now through February 17th.
