Looking for some ways to get onto the water and take advantage of the warm weather? We’ve got a list of places where you can kayak, stand up paddleboard (SUP), or boat within the Charlotte area. It’s a great way to enjoy the sunshine, get some exercise, and in some cases, meet some new people!
- Anne Springs Close Greenway – Fort Mill, SC: Starting on April 25th, you can rent a kayak or paddleboard at the Greenway on Saturdays, Sundays, and a few select holidays (i.e. Memorial Day) to take out on Lake Haigler.
- Whitewater Center – Charlotte, NC: There’s a multitude of activities at the Whitewater Center, including flatwater and whitewater kayaking and stand up paddleboarding.
- Mountain Island Lake Company – Huntersville, NC: Kayaking and stand up paddleboarding are available on weekends in April and Wednesdays-Sundays beginning in May.
- Long Island Paddle Sports – Catawba, NC: You can rent SUPs and kayaks at this spot on the Catawba River on Lake Norman. They’re open seven days a week (a plus, since many places are not!) and the staff is very friendly.
- Lake Wylie Boat Rental – Belmont, NC: You can rent a boat, paddleboard, or kayak here, and if you need a boat driving lesson, you can sign up for one. They even have GoBoat Water Scooters, which allows you to glide around on the water powered by a motor.
- What’s Up Watersports – Catawba, NC: You can rent a variety of water toys here at What’s Up, including jet skis. They even deliver to Airbnbs and VRBOs along Lake Norman.
