Tell us a little about yourself.
Crystal A. Smith Maxwell, originally from Mississippi. Moved to Charlotte in 2010 from Tennessee after completing my Family Medicine residency.  My husband and I have been married for 17 years. We have a 13-year-old daughter.

What are your favorite activities/restaurants in/around Charlotte?
I enjoy going to the spa. My favorites are Ballantyne Resort, the Ritz, and Woodhouse Spa. My favorite restaurants are North Italia, Toscano, and Cajun Yard Dog Arboretum. I also enjoy going to the movies, Panthers games, and Hornets games.

What are your child(ren)’s favorite things to do in Charlotte?
My daughter loves going to Carowinds, Panthers games, and Hornets games. She does competitive dance and loves going to dance conventions and competitions in the area.

What’s something new in the Charlotte area that you’d like to do this summer?
I’m interested in going to the new adult part of Carowinds. I’m also excited about the Charlotte Mimosa Festival on September 27th at Lenny Boy’s. It’s not new but it only happens once a year and was a wonderful experience last year. They had a band, DJ, vendors, food trucks, and dancing. It was really a great time and I’m excited for it again this year!

Tell us about your business.
I am the Founder and CEO of LIGHT Family Wellness. I focus on 4 areas of wellness – primary care, weight management, hair loss, and skin rejuvenation. I provide membership-based primary care for individuals and small businesses, nutrition coaching and medication management to reverse insulin resistance for long term weight loss, hair restoration using painless non-invasive laser technology for women and men, and non-invasive skin laser
treatments for acne, acne scarring, wrinkles, age spots, and skin tightening. I carry a CBD-based skin care line and medical grade red light device for skin care rejuvenation. I’m located at 2021 Bridgemill Dr. Suite 102, Fort Mill, SC 29707, which is actually in Indian Land.

What is the best piece of parenting advice you’ve received?
Avoid disciplining from anger. Understand why a behavior occurred and decide on corrective measures when you are calm and can think clearly. When you discuss with you are child what the next steps will be, you are able to still show love towards your child even though you are not pleased with an action they took. Kids need to feel loved and safe even when they make poor choices so that they can be open to being honest with you in the future.

Do you have a favorite podcast or TV show to recommend to our followers?
Ovaryactive – it’s a podcast by 2 OB/GYN female physicians discussing everything perimenopause and menopause. They give honest and real insights to what women experience and what science actually shows about treating this phase of life. It’s helped me as I experience perimenopause as a woman and has given me insights to improve how to help my patients.
