Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill, SC
Although Charlotte has recently experienced unusually cold weather, the temperatures overall are acceptable for lots of outdoor exercise. And while all (or at least most) of us would love to put fitness in the forefront of our schedules, sometimes other things just get in the way.
I’ve put together a list of ways to get out and get some exercise in the area…places you can take the kids and get them moving as well. That’s a win-win in my book!
Walking Trails:
- University of North Carolina-Charlotte Botanical Gardens (9090 Craver Road, Charlotte, NC 28223): UNC-Charlotte has a beautiful campus with several options for walking and sightseeing, including the 49ers trail and the UNC-Charlotte Botanical Gardens.
- Fit Trail (13515 Ballantyne Corporate Place, Charlotte, NC 28277): This trail in the wooded area behind Ballantyne Three has an amenity that I love: 20 suggested exercises at stations along the trail for you and/or your group to try. Most kids are not going to turn down a challenge!
- Reedy Creek Nature Preserve (2900 Rocky River Road, Charlotte, NC 28215): This trail provides lots of opportunities for viewing wildlife (especially birds) and for enjoying nature while getting in a good walk.
- Four Mile Creek Greenway (5803 Bevington Place, Charlotte, NC 28277): A two-mile trail with ample entry points, including one near Matthews Elementary School. It’s also completely paved, which is great for those with little kids or strollers.
- Trails at Lake Norman State Park (759 State Park Road, Troutman, NC 28166): The Alder Trail, among others listed on the site, is short and is easy for children to maneuver. There’s a list of other trails in this park ranging in difficulty. I love walking near the water, so being in viewing proximity to the lake is a plus.
- Anne Springs Close Greenway (2573 Lake Haigler Drive, Fort Mill, SC 29815): With trails plus a forest-themed playground, a children’s farm, and a location on the water, there’s something to make everyone happy!
